Batson, Coming Events, Mother's Day, Sam Haskell

Dear Y'all,

We are beyond thrilled to report that y’all helped us raise $30,000.00 for Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital during this year’s Million Queen March™ Weekend Festivites! This does not include what was raised at the pre-Parade City Sweep or anything done by other groups over the weekend—this is just what YOU QUEENS helped us do! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!

The total also does NOT include the donation to come from DUANE JONES—the SPQ™ O-fficial Parade Photographer. You’ll recall that Duane generously donates 20% of all photo sales from the Weekend to Batson—so if you haven’t ordered your photos yet—do it now! And order LOTS! It’s for the CHIRREN, after all. CLICK HERE to see thousands of Duane’s SPQ™ Photographs.

Due to the overwhelming success of the Jello Wrasslin’ Event this year, we never got around to putting the tattoos on Martha Jean. Truth be told, everybody was so carried away with The Cutest Boy in the World in his Orange Thong, nobody even missed the total tatting of MJ!

We still have SPQ™ TATTOOS for the CHIRREN available, for $1 each. They are not on our website store though. If you want some, send a check to me—made payable to BLAIR E. BATSON CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL—at my address, 161 Pembroke Circle, Madison, MS 39110, and include a SASE. We will send you your SPQ™ Tats—and we will send the check to the chirren!

No, we are not rested up from the Parade. However, we are already at work on next year’s event! I can tell you—it will far exceed this year—so you can only imagine….

MOTHER’S DAY IS MAY 10—and we have a new supply of the fabulous hot pank and black baseball t-shirts saying, “The Fear of Women is the Basis of Good Health.”  These new shirts sold out during the Parade in about 15 minutes. We also have our 2009 O-fficial Million Queen March™ t-shirts available. A white v-neck says, "Never Wearing Panties to Parties is Good" and black crew has a cool pank and green Recycle Logo on it If she’s not a t-shirt wearer, how about some Queenly Shades and a hot-pank rhinestone Travel Mug—with a MIRROR on it, no less!

Mother’s Day Sale

Starting today and going all the way until NOON, Central, on Friday, 1 May 2009,

EVERYTHING in the SPQ™ Store is 20% OFF!

All prices reflect 20% off the regular price.

In any event, let us all remember how very special and important ALL MAMAS ARE—and be grateful for them. Those of us who still have ours with us are especially lucky and those of us privileged to BE mamas are incredibly blessed. We also want to be mindful and prayerful for those who have lost their own mothers—and especially those who have lost children or who’ve never had the joy of mothering the child of their hearts. It’s not an easy day for some folks—reach out to someone who might be having a hard time with it.

I’ll be on the road a good bit here—so check out these dates and come see me if you can—I do love to see “family” when I’m traveling.

APRIL 18—I’m speaking at the Southern Kentucky Book Fest in Bowling Green.

APRIL 18—The Cutest Boy in the World and I will be joining our friends from the movie "Randy and The Mob," Raymond McKinnon and Walton Goggins, for the Nashville Film Festival's screening of their newest feature film, "That Evening Sun," based on a short story by another buddy, William Gay.

APRIL 22—I will be at a two-day fundraising event for the Philadelphia Museum of Art—and let me just say, there WILL be one of my custom-made Larry Vrba BIG A** CROWNS going home with some lucky winner from that event! I see a road-trip for Fifi coming up, don’t you? Queen Fifi is the Susan Lucci of Big A** Crown Raffles—I bet she’s bought THOUSANDS of dollars worth of tickets over the last 10 years. (We hope she never wins—because she’s such a good source of revenue for these fundraisers!)

APRIL 30—The Cutest Boy in the World and I will run up to West Point, MS for a fundraising event for the West Point Public Library.  This is hometown to The Dummy Line author BOBBY COLE  so if you’re in the neighborhood—you can come see me AND meet Bobby. And no, The Cutest Boy in the World will NOT be wearing the Orange Thong for this event.

MAY 2—We’ll be in Corinth, MS, for the 28th Annual Coca-Cola Classic 10K. No, I’m NOT running—I’m the Honorary Race Chairman and then I’ll be at Downtown Books talking and signing.

MAY 13—I’m speaking at a fundraiser for the Children's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.  Gonna go hep THEIR chirren—and yes, there WILL be another BIG A** CROWN involved—so I guess it’s one more road trip and a bunch of raffle tickets for Fifi!

MAY 16—I have O-fficially Arrived.  Mississippi’s Favorite Son, Sam Haskell, asked me to participate in his fabulous fundraiser, Stars Over Mississippi Gala, to support the Mary Kirkpatrick Haskell Scholarship Fund. This is always a truly stellar event and I am indeed honored to be included this year. Sam also has a new book coming out at the end of this month, Promises I Made My Mother. You can CLICK HERE to find out more about Sam, his new book, and where to catch up with him in person or see him on tee-vee.

HILTON ROOMS are available NOW for next year’s Million Queen March™ Weekend Festivities—which will be 18-21 March 2010. It’ll be here before we know it! The ONLY WAY to get a room is to click on the above link. Don't forget, there's only a two-night minimum. You better make your reservations ASAP. This year sold out quicker than ever and it’s already looking like 2010 will sell out even faster!!! WHOO-HOO!!!!

Oh, and one other thing, The Golden Boys, opens in theaters tomorrow. Its a romantic comedy, set on Cape Cod in 1905, about three 70-year-old retired sea captains who try to lure an attractive middle-aged woman into marrying one of them. Looks like a good bet!
