Memphis Scream Fest and Other Fun Events

SweetPotatoQueens.com

Dear Y'all,

Well, we’re On-The-Road, again and havin’ a LARGE time at all the signings so far—MUN-ro, Little Rock, and Memphis. You can keep up by becoming a Friend of mine on Facebook and by checking out my Blog—whatever that is.

At Wordsworth in Little Rock, our best friends and Parade Sponsor, Barefoot Wine and Bubbly, poured free wine and champagne at the book signing which benefited the Arkansas Audubon Society.

In Memphis last night at Davis-Kidd Booksellers, I did something I’ve ALWAYS wanted to do: Scream in response to a screaming child. Whenever the little beester would tune-up, EVERYONE at the signing would scream in unison. One of the Most Cathartic Things EVER! I highly recommend it. From now on, regardless of where you are, scream at the same volume and intensity as the Instigator—maybe the so-called responsible party will notice the correlation and remove the little yowler—that for whatever reason at that time should NOT be out in public. We’ll be at the vanguard of new movement. (By the way, a Prepared Little Queen had her video camera with her and she will be posting video of the Great Memphis ScreamFest on YOUTUBE soon, if she hasn’t already!)

A couple of Very Special Events are occurring during this promotional tour for American Thighs: The Sweet Potato Queens’ Guide to Preserving Your Assets:

That Bookstore in Blytheville, (Arkansas) tonight, Thursday, 8 January, at the Ritz Civic Center. Mary Gay Shipley is hosting this fundraising event. We’ll have free Barefoot Wines and food for y’all. For details, call Mary Gay at 870-763-3333.

Big Hat Books in Indianapolis on Sunday, 11 January, at 2 pm, is hosting an event benefiting Dress For Success, the international organization that provides disadvantaged women with professional attire, support and career development tools. Everyone is invited to bring a gently worn suit, blouse, coat, or handbag. (It’ll help you create a little more room in your own personal closet too.)

I have donated a fabulous Larry Verba one-of-a-kind bracelet for the raffle. (Larry makes all my crowns and joory.) Also, Marigold, Big Hat Books, and other Broad Ripple Village neighbors are contributing goodies for the raffle. Barefoot Wines will be pouring free libations…and there will be food.

The cost of the event is ONLY the purchase price of the new book—can you image a Better Deal? You’ll get to help christen Elizabeth’s new store location, raise funds and awareness for a great cause, support a fantastic independent bookseller, and most importantly help shore-up my Plastic Surgery Fund!

For reservations—don’t wait—call 317-202-0203 or go online at www.bighatbooks.com. (The new store is at 6510 Cornell Ave., right on the Monon Trail, next door to the landmark Broad Ripple Brew Pub, at the corner of 65th Street and Cornell Ave., easily accessible for either College Ave to the West, or Westfield Blvd. to the East, just two blocks North of their former location.)

Baton Rouge, LAAmerican Thighs and Sweet Potato Pie: A Luncheon to Benefit the American Cancer Society. On Thursday, January 29th at 11:30, I’ll be speaking at this fundraising event sponsored by Barnes & Noble, City Social, and Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, of course!

Seating is limited, so you better call quick, 225-767-4567, to make your reservations. The ticket price includes lunch, wine and a copy of American Thighs. Just think of it: for your tax-deductible contribution (first consult and/or confirm with your tax advisor—Bad Dog made me say that) to the American Cancer Society you’ll be supporting a Worthwhile Cause, you’ll get the elusive Free Lunch, you’ll drink free libations, receive a copy of the new book (saving sales tax—wink—and/or shipping), AND you’ll learn the Secrets of The Universe as exposed by Yours Truly; PLUS, you’ll get a chance to win one of my VERY OWN SEQUINQUEEN JACKETS—they are not only one-of-a-kind, it’s from my very own personal collection!

THE Event will be held at the Crowne Plaza Baton Rouge (formally the Holiday Inn Select) at 4728 Constitution Ave., Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Sarasota, FL: For all you Florida Queens, please join me for a Friends of the Shelby Library fundraising event sponsored by Sarasota News and Books, at 5:30 pm, on Sunday, 18 January. Your ticket includes a signed copy of American Thighs, food, BAREFOOT WINE and a chance to win one of my very own fabulous, one-of-a-kind Larry Vrba “diamond” bracelets!  The event will be held at the Selby Public Library, Gelbart Auditorium, 1331 First Street, Downtown Sarasota, FL.

If you can’t attend one of these charity events in your area, OF COURSE, the supporting store will have TONS of SIGNED books available and, time permitting, I’ll be in each of the stores for a little while to personalize as well. Just check with your local stores for all info.
